Please take a look at our exciting learning.
Autumn 1 Learning.
During Autumn 1 Nursery focused on Our World, we discussed our families, our homes, our new friends and of course we explored our school. We focused on Andy Goldsworthy and applied our learning in Forest School.
In Maths we explored Nursery rhymes, counting songs and explored the language of number. We focused on numbers 1-3.
Autumn 2 Learning .
This term Nursery have been looking at their local environment, exploring where they live and who they live with. The children have built new friendships and have learnt about the world they see everyday, from the houses they walk past to the different homes of different animals.
The children have also been learning about light and dark, exploring which animals are awake in the day time or night time and how we know this. The children learnt how shadows are formed when light is blocked by an object creating the shapes behind the object and the children explored this using torches. We focused on the books, Whatever Next, Owl Babies and Night Monkey Day Monkey.
Nursery also had a visit from the local children's centre where we had stories read to us and fun activities.
During Maths we have focused on numbers aswell as comparing the size and weight of shapes. The children learnt about about 2D and 3D shapes and could put them into the right groups.
We even went on a trip to Otterspool to see Santa!
Spring 1
Nursery have learnt about Traditional Tales and focused on the stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, 3 Little Pigs The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Little Red Riding Hood.
They have explored feelings and emotions linked to Zones of regulation and applied this to their learning.
They have experimented with their own symbols and marks as well as numerals. Solved real world mathematical problems with numbers up to 5
They have compared quantities using language of ‘more than’, ‘fewer than’ and positional language such as “The bag is under the table,” –with no pointing.
They have described a familiar route related to Little Red Riding Hood and and discussed routes and locations, using words like ‘in front of’ and ‘behind’.
Spring 2
This term the children are continuing with Traditional Tales as they enjoyed them so much! We are combining this with animals and plants . Don’t tell the children yet but we are also getting Chicks!!!!!
During phonics we will increase our phonological awareness, so that they can spot and suggest rhymes, count or clap syllables in a words and recognise words with the same initial sound, such as money and mother and of course we will continue with our love of Nursery Rhymes.
We are focusing on our gross and fine motor skills and using a comfortable grip with good control when holding pens and pencils.
We will continue our knowledge of Zones of Regulation and our emotions and feelings.
We will focus on 2D shapes an patterns, using language such as stripes on clothes, designs on rugs and wallpaper. Use informal language like ‘pointy’, ‘spotty’, ‘blobs’ etc. We will extend and create ABAB patterns – stick, leaf, stick, leaf, we will notice and correct an error in a repeating patterns and begin to describe a sequence of events, real or fictional, using words such as ‘first’, ‘then...’
