 Safeguarding Team & Statement

The primary job of our Safeguarding Team is to keep all children in our school safe – it is the most important aspect of school life. If you have any concerns or worries about any children, please do not hesitate to contact one of our Safeguarding Leadership Team, via the school office.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding safeguarding, then please contact Mrs. J. Hoos.

Mrs. J. Simm (Safeguarding Governor) has oversight of the Safeguarding Leadership Team and can be contacted via the school office.

Alternatively, you can share your concern with Careline on 0151 233 3700

‘The school ensures children learn in a safe, caring and enriching environment. Children are taught how to keep themselves safe, to develop positive and healthy relationships, how to avoid situations where they might be at risk including by being exploited.

The school also has a statutory responsibility to share any concerns it might have about a child in need of protection with other agencies and in particular police, health and children’s services. Schools are not able to investigate child protection concerns but have a legal duty to refer them. In most instances the school will be able to inform the parents/carer of its need to make a referral. However, sometimes the school is advised by children’s services or police that the parent/carer cannot be informed whilst they investigate the matter or make enquires. We understand the anxiety parents/carers understandably feel when they are not told about any concerns from the outset. The school follows legislation that aims to act in the interests of the child.

The school will always seek to work in partnership with parents and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for the child and family’.

Operation Encompass

In conjunction with Merseyside Police, our school is involved in an initiative called Operation Encompass. The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in, heard or witnessed a domestic abuse incident. Following such an incident, children will often arrive at school distressed, upset, worried and unprepared.

Operation Encompass aims to ensure that appropriate school staff (called Key Adults) are made aware early enough to support children and young people in a way that means they feel safe and included.

At our school, the Key Adults are Mr. J. Keher ( Headteacher) and Mrs. J. Hoos (Deputy Headteacher).

This is a valuable initiative that means we can continue to support and help children and families within our school community when they need it most. If you have any questions about Operation Encompass please do not hesitate to contact our Key Adults.

PSHE Curriculum

In our school, one of our most important jobs is teaching the children how to keep themselves safe. This could be in a wide range of different circumstances: road safety, sun safety, online safety and personal safety to name a few.

In school, our PSHE Progression Map shows the key topics and messages that are covered in each year group. Some really important messages are included every year at an age appropriate level. We try our best to link these messages with other curriculum areas and accept any help from professionals, theatre companies and charitable organisations to help deliver these vital messages to our children.

Our PSHE Curriculum Map is attached below.

  • Eyes Open

Tackling County Lines and the criminal gangs who groom young people and exploit vulnerable adults is a priority for Merseyside Police.

  • Domestic Abuse

Merseyside Domestic Violence Services is a Voluntary run organisation based in Liverpool. We work with families affected by Domestic violence. Offering support, advice and educational programs aimed at breaking the cycle of abuse and aiding the recovery process.

  • CEOP

We are here to help and give you advice, and you can make a report directly to us if something has happened online which has made you feel unsafe, scared or worried. This might be from someone you know in real life, or someone you have only ever met online. We take all reports seriously and we will do everything we can to keep you safe.

  • Prevent

If you are concerned that you or someone you know is vulnerable to radicalisation, our Prevent Safeguarding Team can help.

We can help prevent and support vulnerable people from being drawn into extremism or terrorism.

We will also deliver Prevent Awareness Sessions to improve understanding of the process.
