Read Write Inc.

At Childwall Valley, we use the Read Write Inc. programme as a method of teaching reading and writing. Read Write Inc. Phonics teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. They learn to form each letter, spell correctly, and compose their ideas step-by-step.

Phonics and Spellings

Daily phonics lessons using Read, Write Inc, takes place in EYFS, Year 1, Year 2 and KS2 as required. This is a lively and vigorous teaching of synthetic phonics. Children learn the 44 sounds in the English language and how to sound-blend words for reading (decoding) at the same time as developing spellings (encoding). From Year 2 children also have a daily spelling lesson.

In Key Stage 1 children are assessed at the end of Year 1 using a Government Statutory Assessment Tool known as the Phonics Screening Check. This screening check confirms whether the child has learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard and will identify sounds needing further consolidation in Year 2.
